Vietnam War veteran; drag racer

Doyle "The Harv" Harvey, 64, of Tinicum, a drag racer, died May 31, 2010, at Cooper University Hospital in Camden, N.J.

Born in Chester, Mr. Harvey was a resident of the Essington section of Tinicum for most of his life. He was employed by the old Westinghouse Corp. in the Lester section of Tinicum for several years. Mr. Harvey was a former auto worker at the old Chrysler Plant in Newark, Del., for 20 years.

He was an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. A drag-racing enthusiast, his nickname, "The Harv," was on the side of his cars. Mr. Harvey competed at Atco, Cecil County and Maple Grove, among other tracks up until last year. He enjoyed being around people and hunting. He was the brother of the late Janice Broomall.

Survivors: Wife, Beverly Harvey; son, Thomas Harvey of the Havertown section of Haverford; brothers, Stanley Harvey of Aston, Harry Harvey of the Glen Mills section of Concord.

Service: 10 a.m. Saturday, Griffith Funeral Chapel, 520 Chester Pike, Norwood.

Visitation: 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.

Burial: Lawn Croft Cemetery, Lower Chichester.
