Lewis Sterling Russell

December 18th, 1893- April 14th, 1965


Lewis Sterling Russell, seventy-one, 215 East Front Street, Berwick, died in the Berwick Hospital last evening at seven-fifteen, where he had been a patient for the past nine days.


Russell had suffered a heart attack last Tuesday and had seemed to be improving shortly before suffering the fatal attack.
He was born near Athens, Tenn., where he graduated from high school and was an electrical engineer by profession. He was a graduate of university of Cincinnati and had also done considerable preparatory work in welding at Carnegia Tech.
He had taught in the Berwick school system as a welding instructor, retiring six years ago. Before moving to Berwick twenty years ago, had been a resident of Pittsburgh for a number of years.


In former years he was a very active member of the Sandusky street Baptist church of Pittsburgh, was treasurer of the American Welding Society, Susquehanna Valley section. He also was a member of American Society for Metals and the Ranger Hose Company, Berwick.


He is the last survivor of his immediate family and is survived by his wife, the former Helen Ross, at home and several cousins.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at two o'clock from the Kelchner Funeral Home with the Rev. Philip B. Lister, pastor of Berwick Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be made in the family plot in the Pine Grove Cemetery, Market Street, Berwick.
