Raymond Smith Dies, Retiree of Sunshine Biscuit

Raymond C. Smith, 68, of 2031 Kirk Road, died of cancer Tuesday at his home. He had been ill since September.

Mr. Smith was born April 14, 1915, in Waterbury, Conn., a son of Samuel M. and Delilah A. Blair Smith, coming to this area from Oklahoma in 1923. He had worked 35 years for Sunshine Biscuit Co., retiring as a district sales manager in 1972. He was a member of Argus Lodge 545, F&AM, and the Grocery Manufacturers Representatives of Youngstown.

He was a past president of the Mahoning Valley Amateur Radio Association and a member of the United Commercial Travellers, which he had formerly served as secretary and treasurer.

He also belonged to Christ Presbyterian Church and the American Radio Relay League, and had served in the Army Signal Corps during World War II.

He leaves his wife, the former Dolores Stafford, whom he married July 2, 1936; two daughters, Mrs. Patricia Sikora of Youngstown and Mrs. Mary Louise Higgins of Windham; two sons, John R. of Youngstown and James R. of Canton; two sisters, Mrs. Doris Wormley and Mrs. Esther Huff, both of Boardman; and 11 grandchildren.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in the church. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at the Thompson Funeral Home, where the lodge will conduct a service at 9 p.m. Thursday.
